Quick Tip: How To Use the Williams Sight Pusher
one year ago
Brownells Gun Tech™ Steve Ostrem is far from being a pushy person, but today he shows us how to use the handy Williams Front Sight Pusher for installing, removing, or adjusting front sights. This thumbscrew-operated tool applies gentle but steady pressure to exactly the right spot on the front sight to move it. It works ONLY on front sights mounted on a RAMP, not on sights mounted directly to the barrel. The tool equalizes pressure on the ramp and the sight to move the sight without marring or damaging it or the ramp.
The Williams sight pusher has two small prongs on one side that rest against the ramp. As you tighten the T-handle, a movable prong on the opposite side presses against the sight, causing it to move in the ramp. Make sure the two stationary prongs are touching only the ramp, while the "pusher" prong is contacting only the sight itself, not any part of the dovetail. If the pusher prong hits the side of the dovetail, it'll ding the finish on the ramp. So check, then double-check your alignment. If you push the sight over too far one way, reverse the tool and goose it back the other way. Steve demonstrates for us - smooth as silk!
