Mossberg 590 Enhanced Safety

Author Caleb Savant

Safety should always be our first priority, and a robust, reliable safety on your self-defense shotgun is mission-critical. Brownells Firearm Support Technician Caleb Savant shows us how to install the Brownells Enhanced Mossberg Safety (#080-000-539) on a Mossberg 590 Shockwave. The standard factory button is made of plastic and isn't very robust; the Brownells replacement is made of STEEL. The gun Caleb's working on has an SB Tactical SBL Stabilizing Brace with pistol grip installed on it - a popular Shockwave upgrade - so first he has to remove that. Then the trigger and shell latches come out before you can remove the old safety button. Caleb shows us the trick to correctly removing the safety button, retaining plate, detent, and spring. And he demonstrates the easiest, fastest way to put it all back together with the enhanced button. Note: The Brownells safety also fits the Mossberg 500 and 835, as well as the standard 590 and 590 Shockwave.
