BARREL INSTALLATION AND PREP
Start by applying lubricant to the barrel extension and receiver interface. This ensures smooth fitment and proper torque distribution. Insert the barrel into the upper receiver, ensuring the indexing pin is aligned.
If the fit is tight, controlled pressure or light tapping with protection on the threads can help seat the barrel fully.
BARREL NUT INSTALLATION AND TORQUE
The Geissele barrel nut comes pre-oiled. Leave that oil in place or apply a light coat if needed. Thread the nut onto the receiver and torque it to approximately 40 foot-pounds.
Geissele notes that exact torque is less critical than staying within a proper range. A working range of roughly 40 to 50 foot-pounds is acceptable, as long as alignment is correct and the gas tube path is clear.
GAS SYSTEM INSTALLATION
Install the gas tube into the gas block using a roll pin. Secure the gas block onto the barrel, ensuring proper alignment with the gas port.
If the barrel is not dimpled, take extra care to align the gas block correctly. Final alignment can be verified later if needed.
HANDGUARD INSTALLATION AND ALIGNMENT
Slide the MK18 handguard over the barrel nut and align it with the upper receiver rail. Proper alignment is critical for optics and accessory mounting.
Install the cross bolts but do not fully tighten them yet. Use the anti-rotation screws to gently contact the receiver. These should be snug but not forceful.
Once aligned, torque the cross bolts to approximately 5 foot-pounds or 60 inch-pounds.
FINAL ASSEMBLY AND ACCESSORIES
Install the muzzle device and tighten it against the barrel shoulder. If using a suppressor, ensure proper mounting and clearance.
The MK18 is compatible with Unity-style front sights and allows easy integration of suppressor covers and other accessories.
