Product Spotlight: SilencerCo SCO15 Upper Receiver

Author Caleb Savant
one year ago
Caleb's found an AR-15 upper that combines the robustness and unique looks of a billet upper with the compatibility of a standard forged upper - the BEST of both worlds. Most of us associate the SilencerCo name with silencers, but their SCO15 Upper Receiver is the proverbial "game changer." It's machined-from-billet, so it does not look like your standard forged AR upper, not only because of its unique contours but for the impressive quality of its hard-anodized finish. Sure, an AR-15 upper receiver has to be functional, but why can't it be good-looking, too? SilencerCo added extra metal at stress points, including the forward assist housing, but they didn't overdo it, so the SCO15 doesn't look blocky or chunky.
The SCO15 is machined to the original AR-15 specs at all the key interface points, so it will fit any standard (aka "mil-spec") lower receiver. It accepts any mil-spec forward assist, ejection port cover, and charging handle, including the SiCo Gas Buster. The front of the receiver is machined down to provide clearance for any handguard that fits a mil-spec upper. There's the customary M1913 Picatinny rail on top, and M4-type feed ramps inside aid in round chambering / extraction. And did we mention the SCO15 upper is really, really good-looking?
Caleb did run into one small problem: a little extra metal in the magazine well area prevents the SCO15 from fitting into The Device upper receiver block from The Device Mfg. It does fit the Magpul BEV Block and the Midwest Industries Upper Receiver Rod, so you still have good options for securely clamping your SCO15 into a vise while you work on it.
We should also mention that the SilencerCo SCO15 upper receiver is REALLY good looking!
