Product Spotlight : Real Avid Master Cleaning Kit
Product Spotlight Introduction and First Look
Hey everybody, Steve and Caleb with Brownells here. Today we have a product spotlight, and Caleb dragged this one out of the box fresh in the studio. It is brand new, still in the packaging.
The product is the Real Avid Bore-Max Master Gun Cleaning Kit. The idea is simple — one cleaning kit that is neatly organized and built to cover most firearms you are likely to own.
What This Master Gun Cleaning Kit Covers
Right out of the gate, they call out the caliber range. This kit is aimed at common calibers, starting at .22 and up. It is not intended for .17 caliber.
They read through the coverage list:
Handguns: .22, .380 (also covers 9mm), .40, .45
Shotguns: 12 gauge, 20 gauge
Rifles: .22, .223 (covers 5.56), .243 (covers 6mm), .260 (covers 6.5), .270, 7mm (.284), .30 cal (covers 7.62), plus additional items referenced on the packaging.
The takeaway is that it is built around the calibers most shooters actually use, with labeled, dedicated storage for each segment of the cleaning system.
Case Design, Buckles, and Modular Trays
The case is loaded and heavy, which makes sense once you see how much is packed inside. It uses multiple buckles and straps, and everything is banded and secured for shipping.
Once opened, you can use the top tray as its own work surface. The internal tray lifts out, revealing where the smaller cleaning supplies and accessories are stored. There is also a dedicated storage area for supplies and an included cleaning mat to keep solvents and carbon off your bench.
Cleaning Station Base and Adjustable Gun Holders
One of the more useful features is that the case becomes a cleaning station. The rifle or shotgun holders ride in rails on the back of the station. You lift them up, snap them into place, and they hinge so they stay attached.
That matters because loose parts get lost. A system that keeps holders attached and indexed to the base is a practical upgrade.
With the holders deployed, you can rest a rifle in the cradle while cleaning, and you can also use the station for tasks like leveling an optic or supporting a firearm during maintenance.
Small Parts Storage and Organized Patch Access
They point out a small storage area that can hold parts during disassembly. If you are detail stripping something like a Glock, having a dedicated bin for springs, screws, and small components keeps your workflow under control.
The patch storage is designed so patches and swabs lift up cleanly. Everything is labeled so you can grab the correct item without digging through a pile.
Cleaning Rod, Bearings, and Barrel Length Coverage
The kit includes a multi-section cleaning rod. At first glance it looks short, but additional sections store in the case so you can build the rod to the length you need.
They note that the rod appears treated or coated and that it is well made. The handle is on a bearing so it free-spins, which is what you want for consistent contact through the bore. In practical terms, it is long enough for most rifle and shotgun barrel lengths unless you have something unusual.
Bore Guide System and Why It Matters
They find a bore guide, which is a major benefit in a kit like this. The bore guide goes into the action and allows the cleaning rod to pass through while keeping solvent from running into the trigger group and magazine well.
They discuss it in the context of a Remington 700 style action, but the intent is broader. It appears to be a universal-style bore guide with interchangeable tips for different diameters.
They later confirm more details. The bore guide heads cover .223, 6mm, and .30 caliber, and the kit includes a clamping system that runs through the ejection port to lock the bore guide in place. That keeps the guide from walking back and forth while cleaning and helps protect the bore and chamber area.
Rechargeable Clamp Light and Built-In Visibility
Another surprise is the included light. It is rechargeable and clamps directly onto the cleaning station base. It shows a battery indicator and includes a USB to USB-C charging cord.
The light clamps in different corners, giving you flexibility based on how you have the gun positioned. It also has different brightness settings. And since it is detachable, it can be used to find dropped parts on the floor when the inevitable happens.
Scrapers, Probes, and Brush Options
They also call out the included brushes and tools. The kit includes scrapers and probes designed to reach tight areas, scrape carbon, or help with small parts placement during reassembly.
The brushes include nylon and bronze bristles, letting you choose the right level of aggressiveness depending on what you are cleaning.
Optional Accessories and Overall Use Case
They note that there are other attachments sold separately, including a magnifying glass holder and a phone holder. That is useful if you want hands-free viewing while following maintenance instructions.
When it comes time to pack everything away, it is clear this is built to store compactly. The whole system stacks neatly and can be stowed alongside a bench, inside a safe, or anywhere you need it. For shooters without dedicated bench space, it also makes cleaning on a kitchen counter more practical because the mat and station help contain the mess.
Wrap-Up
This is not your average tackle box style cleaning kit. It is a complete, organized gun cleaning station that covers the common calibers, keeps tools indexed, and adds features like a bore guide and rechargeable light.
