Brand Spotlight: GBRS Group

Today

Introduction

Caleb from Brownells is joined by Cole from GBRS Group to introduce a selection of new GBRS products that Brownells will be offering. This session explores the mission behind GBRS, how their gear is designed, and what sets their products apart from others on the market.

What is GBRS Group? Background and Mission

GBRS Group was founded in 2019 by retired Tier One military operators. The company began as a training organization, focused on passing down real-world knowledge and skills to the next generation. Over time, it evolved into a product and lifestyle company, committed to equipping individuals not only with gear but also with the mental and physical readiness required for high-stress environments.

Every piece of gear GBRS makes is developed from real operational experience in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. Their goal is not to create flashy gear, but high-performance tools that enable the user to act decisively and effectively.

Experience-Driven Gear Development

Cole emphasizes that all GBRS products are rooted in mission experience. Their approach ensures that each design solves a real problem faced in the field. Rather than follow trends or copy aesthetics, they build gear that makes users more capable under stress. The focus is always on function, performance, and reliability.

Benefits of GBRS Optic Mounts and Higher Sight Height

One of the key product lines discussed is the GBRS Hydra Mount, known for its taller height. While some see this as unconventional, Cole points out that elevated optic mounts have existed for decades—notably in units seen during the Blackhawk Down era where red dots sat on carrying handles.

The purpose of this height is to bring the optic and laser into alignment, while freeing up valuable rail space. This shift improves balance by centralizing weight and enables better weapon manipulation and faster sight acquisition.

Mount Design for NODs, Gas Masks, and Rail Space

The GBRS mounts are especially beneficial when using night vision devices (NODs) or gas masks. Traditional optic heights often interfere with these tools. By raising the optic, GBRS improves passive aiming capabilities while maintaining a natural, heads-up shooting position. The design has been well received by military, law enforcement, and civilian users alike.

GBRS Belts: Hook and Loop Orientation Explained

A standout innovation in the GBRS belt system is the reversed hook-and-loop design. Unlike most belts that place the rough Velcro against the body, GBRS places the soft Velcro inward. This simple change drastically improves comfort.

During mountain missions in Afghanistan, the rough Velcro caused damage to clothing and skin. Facing it outward avoids abrasion and extends the lifespan of gear and apparel during extended wear.

Comfort Improvements from Belt Redesign

Caleb adds that many of his range shirts are torn up from traditional belt setups. GBRS solves that issue with a logical, field-tested approach. The reversed Velcro orientation is a small but meaningful improvement in long-term comfort and durability.

Modular Chest Rigs: History and GBRS Innovations

GBRS also reimagined the chest rig. Older chest rigs used during deployments were bulky, had sewn-in pouches, and lacked flexibility. GBRS’s updated rigs are modular, lightweight, and customizable, allowing users to scale up or down depending on mission needs.

Whether it's magazines, radios, or medical kits, users can configure their chest rig for exact requirements. The focus is on reducing unnecessary bulk while maintaining durability and adaptability.

Tegris Material: Strength, Waterproofing, and Compatibility

A major design element across GBRS gear is the use of Tegris, a thermoplastic composite known for its strength and lightweight properties. Tegris adds rigidity where needed, such as in belts and chest rigs, without making the gear bulky or uncomfortable.

Tegris is also waterproof and low-profile, making it ideal for demanding conditions. All GBRS products are MOLLE-compatible, allowing integration with other gear brands. There are no proprietary limitations—just pure modularity.

Wrap-Up and Future Content Tease

Caleb and Cole close out the conversation with a preview of future content where they’ll go deeper into belt setups, chest rig configurations, and more details about how to optimize GBRS gear for specific tasks.

They invite viewers to leave comments, ask questions, and reach out to the Brownells tech line for more information on GBRS products.
