Our man in the know with the new products, Paul Levy, has something that'll to appeal to folks who are looking for the latest in a micro-compact concealed carry / EDC gun. Smith & Wesson has introduced the latest iteration of their popular M&P® series - the M&P® Shield Plus™ in 9mm Luger (And that "Plus" isn't just marketing hype! This Shield variant has a double-stack magazine with the capacity upped to a full 13 rounds. Or 10 rounds if you use the included mag with the flush-fit base plate - which makes for a VERY compact, concealable pistol package. (A standard 9mm Shield holds a max of 8 rounds.) Excellent M2.0-like texturing on the surprisingly slim, ergonomic grip, and a variety of sight options, including a long-slide model with an integral red dot sight mount. Good news: the Shield Plus uses standard M&P Shield sights, so any aftermarket Shield sights out there are fair game. More good news: the Plus fits standard M&P Shield holsters, so lots of gunleather options, too. Another pleasant surprise is the remarkably refined, clean-breaking trigger, uncommon for a micro-compact carry gun. You also get a choice of an all-passive safety system OR a manual thumb safety, for that extra measure of protection.
WARNING: Never attempt to disassemble or reassemble a firearm unless you are absolutely certain that it is empty and unloaded. Visually inspect the chamber, the magazine and firing mechanism to be absolutely certain that no ammunition remains in the firearm. Disassembly and reassembly should follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
