When I first picked up the High Standard 1911 GI, the one that has served as the mugging victim for a series of low buck upgrade projects, I couldn't help but wonder why any company would sell a gun with a minor speed bump for a front sight.
Last time, we got all of the tough machining work on the High Power out of the way. The sights are now installed, the serrations are in the top of the slide, the trigger job is done, and the grips have been selected.
The Browning High Power is, in my humble opinion, one of the finest handguns ever produced. Designed by John Browning and later refined by Dieudonne Saive of Fabrique National (FN) in Belgium, the Model 1935 has seen extensive use around the world.
I recently purchased a Remington 870 at a local gun show. It had been well maintained, but with every gun that sees a lot of use, there were some wear marks and imperfections that detracted from its appearance.
Every now and again, the Brownells Tech Staff comes across a new and exciting customizing technique that not only enhances the form, fit or function of a firearm, but also is simple to do and doesn't break the bank.
Early in my career as a pistolsmith, I worked hard to develop a process I could apply to all 1911 Auto Pistols that would produce a reliable 2½ pound trigger pull that broke clean and would not follow.
When shooters get together and talk about beavertail grip safeties one name comes up on a regular basis; the name of Ed Brown. Ed didn't invent the beavertail grip safety, but his design certainly brought together a whole lot of features that made shooting the 1911 Auto a lot more enjoyable.
