Brownells 75th Anniversary - A Shooting Heritage

First Annual DPMS Tri-Gun Challenge Draws Shooters from 15 States

Despite high humidity and temperatures approaching 100 degrees at times, more than 60 shooters turned out for the first annual DPMS Tri-Gun Challenge, with Brownells serving as match sponsor.

Held at the Del-Tone/Luth Gun Club in St. Cloud, Minn., the Tri-Gun Challenge attracted many well-known shooters including Jerry Miculek, Bruce Piatt, Jim Clark, Jr. Al Greco, Lew Tippie, Tony Holmes, John Gangle and Dave Neth. Participants competed on a unique and challenging course with stage names like “Invasion Force” and “The Grumpy Old Fisherman.”

Spectators and industry vendors alike enjoyed the fast-paced, two-day event, in which competitors competed in rifle, pistol and shotgun stages. Brownells sent an 8-member team to the Tri-Gun Challenge to compete in the match, and to provide technical tips and assistance to shooters and spectators.

“Brownells was totally delighted to sponsor this great match, which brought the excitement of tri-gun competition to the upper Midwest,” said Brownells Vice President, Pete Brownell.

“The interest the match created and the quality of shooters it attracted are certain to help DPMS achieve its goal of making it the best tri-gun match in the nation within the next five years,” said DPMS President Randy Luth. “From the enthusiastic response we have received from both shooters and spectators, it’s clear the Tri-Gun Challenge is a great match to attend, regardless of whether you’re competing or not. We’re already planning for an incredible 2004 match. We learned a lot of lessons this year that we will be able to apply towards making next year’s event even better.”

A complete winner’s list, along with scores for each stage, is available on the DPMS website at To learn more about the 2004 DPMS Tri-Gun Challenge, contact Paul Braun at the Del-Tone/Luth Gun Club by phone at (320) 251-9873, or by mail at 3322 12th Street S.E., St. Cloud, Minn. 56304.
