Intended to provide state-of-the-art tools for aspiring gunsmiths to learn on, Brownells announced that it has provided funding for a new CNC (Computer Numeric Control) milling machine at Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.
The new American-made Wells-Index mill has been installed at Murray State Colllege, where it is available to students and faculty in the school’s gunsmithing program.
Commenting on the gift, Brownells President, Frank Brownell said, “The program at Murray State is important in meeting industry demands for qualified gunsmiths, so when we learned of their equipment needs, it was natural for us to do what we could to help them out. As a fellow member of the gunsmithing community, we want to do everything we can to help students gain the skills afforded by the latest technology.”
According to Dean Arnold, Gunsmithing Program Chaiman at Murray State College, the new CNC machine will enable his students to train on production equipment which is increasingly being adopted even in smaller operations.
“Gaining a machine like this is very important for our program but simply hadn’t been possible in our budget,” he said. “We have long recognized Brownells as a leader in the industry and greatly appreciate their willingness to help us carry out our educational mission.”
The Murray State College Gunsmithing program was established in 1979, and enables students to qualify for an Associate in Applied Science Degree or a Certificate in Gunsmithing. For more information about the program, visit http://www.mscok.edu/departments/cert/gunsmithing.html.
