  Pete Talk About Guns

  Dear Folks, Dear Folks,
This year we're facing one of the most pivotal Presidential elections in our country's history and certainly one of the most hotly contested races in modern memory. These next 2 weeks are weeks of "Last Chances" as the election comes even closer on November 4. As all of you know, if you're not registered you can't vote. (Some states do allow same-day registration but to stay on the safe side, I'd go ahead and get it done if you haven't already.)

If the past two Presidential elections are any indication, this years race will almost certainly come right down to the wire once again. The days of Reaganesque landslides are over. When you hear folks say that they don't vote because their one vote won't make a difference well...they do and just a handful of votes have decided who won the Presidency. Get out and register: it doesn't matter if you affiliate yourself with the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, the Independents or any other party. Register and take a good hard look at each candidates views on the issues that impact you, and our industry the most. One of the most valuable items you'll ever receive in your lifetime is that voter registration card.

Without this card you can't contribute to the democratic process that America was founded upon. The NRA and NSSF has made it very simple for you to register in the form of an online process which is very secure and simple to use. It only takes a few minutes and you're done. You can also do it the old-fashioned way by going to the local courthouse and telling them you're ready to register to vote. They'll be more than happy to help you out.

What it boils down to is this: You'll always find some kind of fault with every candidate. After all, they're human just like the rest of us. The point is, you need to find the one who will best protect what's most important to you. Many people will tell you that they don't vote and won't register because either they don't feel that voting doesn't do them any good or they don't like who the candidates are. I heard people say, "My one vote won't make a difference." Yes, it really will and to expand a little further, we all have something in our lives that are important and very often, voting for the right person can be meaningful and pay off some fairly large dividends in the future. Think about what's important to you, your family and your lifestyle. Not voting is an automatic vote for the person you don't (or might not think you want) in office.

So registering is something you can do the defend yourself and the firearms industry from being killed off by a thousand small cuts here and there that will eventually destroy the 2nd Amendment all together. It's a big responsibility but always remember: it's your right to decide this important issue.

This year it's absolutely critical that you turn out to vote on November 4 with your registration card. If you don't have one today it's time for you to get one and do your part to protect your gun rights for the immediate future and for future generations of safe, responsible and educated gun owners. Better to do it now than in a future where you have no have no option at all.

What you have in your wallet is an opportunity to truly make a difference for yourself, your family, your passions, and your future. That's an awful lot of power for just one person to possess but think about it. It's your right to have the power to elect or not elect our government officials.

Best Wishes,

Brownells Gunsmith Kinks - September 2008 Brownells Gunsmith Kinks - September 2008
Brownells sells all of the tools needed to install an ejector and spring into a Remington 870. I have made a block to hold the receiver for the rivet staking. Mine is made from an aluminum block that is 10" x 6" x 2". The block I used could have been narrower and thinner. The easiest way to get the holes in the right spots is when you have an ejector to install.
