Position Details

Position: Buyer, Sinclair International
Summary:Obtains materials from suppliers at the lowest cost consistent with considerations of quality, reliability of source and urgency of need. Studies market trends, interviews vendors, and recommends sources of supply. Analyzes quotations received, selects or recommends suppliers, and schedules deliveries. Prepares P.O.s and follows up to expedite delivery and shipment. Develops and maintains necessary records and files for efficient operation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Procurement:
    • Responsible for efficient procurement of inventory items, supplies, raw materials and components.
    • Monitor open purchase orders and expedite when necessary.
    • Negotiate terms including pricing, quality, and delivery with suppliers.
    • Obtain quotes for new items and special order items.
    • Resolves problems related to pricing, shortages, overages, damaged product, etc.
    • Studies market prices and trends, industry developments and manufacturing method improvements applicable to assigned responsibilities and confers with Management.
    • Implements with direction from Management, purchasing strategies to accomplish Sinclair’s goals.
  1. Inventory
    • Establishes reorder points and min/max stocking levels to meet customer demand in a cost effective manner.
    • Monitors and adjusts stocking levels based on supplier capabilities and changing customer demand.
    • Analyzes inventory levels and identifies opportunities to increase inventory turns.
    • Enters new product information into computer system.
  1. Sourcing
    • Secures and analyzes quotations; negotiates prices and terms with suppliers; and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery.
    • Interviews and confers with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics, inventory control management.
    • Identifies suppliers for new products.
    • Enters new vendor information into computer system.
  1. Quality
    • Ensures all products meet quality expectations by performing quality checks, evaluating supplier quality processes, and working with supplier to resolve quality issues.
    • Acquires samples of new products for testing and evaluation.
    • Determines whether returned product is eligible for resale based on quality.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in Purchasing and/or Inventory Management.
  • CPSM, APICS Certification(s) or willing to obtain.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills paired with excellent written and verbal communications.
  • Must have or be willing to acquire knowledge of industry and product.
  • Must be willing to travel approximately 15% with additional travel required for the first year.
  • Familiarity with government procurement systems, Six Sigma, or Lean Certifications a plus.
