What Security Means to You on Brownells.com

The Team here at Brownells wants to assure you that your transactions are secure when you place an order through Brownells.com.

https://www.brownells.com
When you click on the My Account tab you will notice the address at the top of your browser changed from http://www.brownells.com to https://www.brownells.com.

This means you have accessed a page that is secure; called SSL, which stands for secure socket layer. That doesn't mean much - but just concentrate on the word secure. It just means that the information you give us is passed between your computer and our webserver securely.

Another way to tell if you are on a secure page is the padlock image at the bottom of your browser.

VeriSign
You'll notice the VeriSign image at the bottom of the screen.

This is a certification software Brownells purchases which enables the security on the site. If you click the image a page will show you whether the site you are on has valid security or not. Look at the status line and make sure the word Valid is showing.

Credit Cards
Under the My Account tab you'll have an opportunity to save your credit card for faster check out. Once you've typed in the information and click the Save Card button you'll get a confirmation screen with the information you just typed in.

Notice how the credit card line only shows the last four digits. This is for your security. If you click the Edit button you can change the expiration date and card name but you won't be able to change the credit card number.

You'll have to totally delete the card and begin again. This is so no one can steal your card information and use it again.

Checkout
Every page of the Checkout process is under the secure sight. Notice the https:// at the top in the address line and the locked padlock at the bottom.

Also watch when you get to Step 4, the Payment option screen. Again your credit card is just listing the last four digits.

Step 5 of the Checkout process has a Logout button. If you are in a corporate setting where your computer can be used or seen by others, it would be in your best interest to click the Logout button before leaving your computer area. This will eliminate anyone from accessing any of your personal information.
