One of the most difficult aspects of fitting a recoil pad has always
been the final fitting of pad to wood - because it is so durned easy
to hit the stock with the disc, sanding strip or file, and ruin the
finish. So, when we saw this Recoil Pad Fitting Jig, we knew it
should be an instant success with pro gunsmiths as it removes all
risk of stock damage when installing recoil pads by finishing the
pad completely off of - and away from - the stock!
The Jig
is composed of two basic pieces: (1) an adjustable triangle on
which the pad is mounted to be dressed to size, and (2) a
universal support which is attached to the sanding disc
table.
Operation is exceedingly simple. The stock is first
cut to the length and pitch required to fit the customer. The pad is
attached to the stock, and the outline of the stock is sharply
scribed on the pad. Then the pad is transferred to the base plate
of the Jig, the angle of pitch is set, the Jig is put on its support and
the pad is dressed to the point of just removing the scribed line
(this is necessary as the line was drawn outside the stock). Finally,
transfer the pad to the stock. No further dressing is required. The
lines of the stock are carried correctly into the pad - and you have
a perfect fit!
With the Recoil Pad Fitting Jig you eliminate
all damage to the stock finish, and reduce the entire pad mounting
operation to a simple 15 minute exercise - making the job an easy
and highly profitable one. Never a marred stock! Never a gray hair!
Never a disgusted customer!
