A Better Way Of Removing 1911 Grip Screw Bushings
Shannon Jennings, Coal Creek Armory, Knoxville, TN
I decided I needed a better way of removing 1911 grip screw bushings that back out with the grip screw. I had a set of needle nose vise grip pliers that have been used for various soldering jobs. The jaws were well annealed. I drilled and then tapped the jaws with a grip screw bushing tap (080-598-236). I had a thin spacer pinched in the jaws for the drilling and tapping so that it will clamp tight on a bushing. We now have an adjustable grip screw bushing clamp. When the pliers are tightened, you can feel the bushing settle into the threads when it's properly aligned. Other styles of pliers should work as long as you can anneal the jaws.
