We do a lot of open sights in my company. The Brownells Sight Height Calculator and the Sight Correction Calculator are used regularly. But nothing replaces actually shooting the rifle with the required load. To make the process of setting the front sight height easier I came up with a simple idea. I took a rear sight ramp and enlarged the dovetail in the upper slide to accept a front sight. Now I set the rear sight of the gun in the middle position and do my height corrections in the front. When the bullet impact is correct, I measure the height and now know what ramp and insert to order from Brownells. Very easy! I drilled the ramp for both number 6 and 8 screws and have slides with several heights of inserts for versatility. For guns that are not drilled and require a solder-on front sight, double stick tape will normally hold through recoil long enough
