Sorbathane Shock Absorber
-- Jesse White
Gentlemen- as you said, the sorbathane shock absorber "flows when not contained," and makes quite a mess in the mag tube. Once all the guts were out and soaking in a bowl of ammonia, I took a piece of Scotchbrite and made a giant patch with a tab so it could be wrapped around a shotgun patch holder on the end of your chuckable brass rod. Dip in the ammonia and run 'er into the mag tube a few passes courtesy of the cordless drill, and all that flowed sorbathane was gone. With a new yellow shock absorber she's all done. I tried every solvent in the shop before it dawned on me that Hoppes is ammonia based, and that's still what most people use to clean their guns. I believe exposure to Hoppes plus a bit of heat from firing spells the death of the factory original shock absorbers on that model shotgun. |
