Brownells® Adds New 20-Round Magazine To Give AR-15/M16 Shooters More Choices For Smooth, Reliable Feeding Performance

AR-15/M16 enthusiasts can now access a wider selection of high-capacity magazines from Brownells®, the leading distributor of gun parts, gunsmithing tools, equipment and firearms accessories. The expanded line now includes a curved-body 20-round model, in addition to the company’s 30-round AR-15/M16 magazine that has received high marks from shooters since its introduction earlier this year. Like its predecessor, the new 20-round model is manufactured to meet or exceed all applicable specifications, and is engineered to set new standards for flawless feeding and long-life.

In announcing the expanded magazine selection, Frank Brownell, company president, said, “Anyone who has used high-capacity AR magazines knows it’s a real gamble to pick one at random and expect it to feed every round without jamming. But that gamble is over. Our engineering team tested a number of materials and manufacturing processes in the development, and the result is a design that offers a new level magazine performance and reliability.”

According to Brownell, the new AR-15/M16 magazines are manufactured to extremely tight tolerances using hard-anodized and dry-lube coated aluminum bodies which are spot-welded to stand up under rough use. To further protect against misfeeds, Brownells uses the latest, proven, MIL-STD follower, which reliably feeds even the last few cartridges in the magazine. It’s the same follower used in military 30-round magazines, but it won’t work in straight-body magazines, so Brownells invested in new dies to build a curved-body 20-round magazine. As with the company’s 30-round magazines, the follower is backed by a choice of two spring materials to match shooter needs and shooting conditions, including:

  • Chrome-silicon — Tests indicate chrome-silicon spring material does a superior job of retaining its original tension during long-term use. As a result, the spring resists weakening, or “taking a set” after being compressed repeatedly, or for long periods of time — a major cause of misfeeds. Brownell notes that, while chrome-silicon springs are not MIL-STD at this time, but may be better for civilian shooters because of its resistance to taking a set.
  • Stainless steel — Made to comply with MIL-STD specifications and designed to feed reliably during long-term exposure to tough environments.

“AR-16/M16 shooters will have a feel for which of these springs will best fit their needs best,” Brownell said. “Either way, they’ll get magazines that insert fast, and feed flawlessly round after round. That’s a given because they’re covered by our guarantee of 100 percent satisfaction.”

Brownells new AR-15/M16 magazines have a suggested retail price of $16.15, in both 20-round and 30-round models. They can be ordered through the company’s toll-free customer service line, (800) 741-0015, or online from www.brownells.com.
