Brownells^® Helps Secure Future of 4-H Shooting Program with Endowment

Brownells^® has established a new endowment with the Iowa 4-H Foundation for the state’s 4-H Safety and Education in Shooting Sports program (SESS).

Based in Montezuma, Iowa, Brownells annual support will provide equipment and funding for the 4-H State Team, which travels to annual competitions. The donation also will support the program’s endowment fund, which will provide perpetual support for the fastest growing 4-H project in Iowa.

“Brownells’ support will help us reach our goal of involving 3,000 youth in SESS programs by 2010,” said Bryan Whaley, shooting sports coordinator. “Their gift will strengthen and help sustain this program, allowing many more young people to participate.”

The Iowa 4-H Safety and Education in Shooting Sports program began in 2005, and has grown by to include almost 1,000 students across the state. More new volunteers are trained in 4-H safety and education in shooting sports than in any of the 100 project areas 4-H offers.

“We’re excited to support 4-H’s shooting sports program,” said Frank Brownell, company president. “4-H helps youngsters and their families develop an appreciation for the environment. It’s great to be able to support an organization that encourages a lifetime of safe shooting."

The Iowa 4-H Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation whose mission is to provide financial resources for youth development through 4-H. Iowa 4-H Youth Development, a part of ISU Extension, reaches over 126,000 youth annually and involves over 12,000 volunteers.

The largest youth development program in Iowa, 4-H SESS offers educational programs teaching youth and adults important life skills.
