Third-Annual DPMS Tri-Gun Challenge
Draws Record Number of Shooters

More than 200 of the best shooters from across the nation converged at the Del-Tone/Luth Gun Club in St. Cloud, Minn., for the third edition of what has become one of the leading 3-gun matches nationwide, the Tri-Gun Challenge, sponsored by DPMS and Brownells.

Spectators and industry vendors witnessed three days of spectacular performances by renowned shooters including Jerry Miculek, Mike Voigt, Matt Burkett, Bruce Piatt, Tony Holmes, Daniel Horner, Dave Neth, Kurt Miller, “Tate” Moots and others. In the end, Matt Burkett, Mike Voigt, Kurt Miller and “Tate” Moots walked away with Tri-Gun Challenge titles, placing first in the open, tactical optics, tactical iron and heavy metal classes. In the closest competition of the weekend Matt Burkett beat Jerry Miculek, a former Tri-Gun Challenge champion, by just two points with a match total of 805.402 points.

DPMS fielded three teams in the team competition, earning second, eighth and 16th place finishes, respectively. Match sponsor Brownells also sent a team of shooters to compete in the team competition. The Brownells team finished seventh in the team competition, which was won by the "2 Clowns & A Superhero" team, composed of Benny Cooley, Mike Voigt and Don Augustine.

"Brownells has supported the Tri-Gun Challenge since its inception, and we've been delighted by the growth and recognition the match has received," said Brownells Vice President, Pete Brownell. "In three short years, the match has earned the reputation as one of the best 3-gun competitions in the nation, and we think it's just super to have such a high-level 3-gun match in the heart of the midwest."

"We're excited at the growth the Tri-Gun Challenge has experienced in its first three years," said DPMS president Randy Luth. "In 2003, we were excited about drawing about 65 shooters to the match, so to have more than 200 competitors this year, it's just amazing. We've worked hard to make the Tri-Gun Challenge a world-class shooting match, and from the feedback we've received from competitors and spectators alike, this year's event was an unqualified success. We look forward to building on that success with a bigger, even better Tri-Gun Challenge in 2006."
