Brownells® Provides New Facilities To Serve Law Enforcement Training Needs
Brownells®, the world’s leading supplier of factory gun parts, gunsmithing tools and accessories, has announced a program to support the training needs of state, county and local law enforcement agencies.
In making the announcement, Frank Brownell, president of Brownells, said the company has designed a special classroom for training use at its Montezuma, Iowa, headquarters. The classroom sessions can also be coordinated with law enforcement agency use of the company’s new Big Springs shooting range near Montezuma.
According to Brownell, the facilities are part of the company’s long-term commitment — including significant contributions to the NRA Law Enforcement Endowment Fund — to supporting the nation’s law enforcement community.
“In this day and age, law enforcement is extremely important, and we want to do all that we can to support it,” Brownell said, “We offer these resources to help agencies maintain peak efficiency. In particular, we hope our new facilities at Montezuma can be a tool for helping agencies keep pace with continual changes and upgrading in maintenance, modification and operation of ordnance and ordnance-related equipment.”
Brownell said use of the new facilities will be directed by the company’s recently-formed Military/Law Enforcement (MIL/LE) Supply group. Services the center will make available include:
Armorer’s Training — A classroom equipped with state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment is available for instruction leading to armorer certification or recertification with specific weaponry. He indicated that several manufacturers including Colt, Smith and Wesson, SIG/Sauer and Remington have already used this facility to conduct classes for departments in the area.
“Maintaining a certified armorer has become essential, particularly in issues of liability,” Brownell said, “and we are pleased to provide a central location to help make the certification process more efficient.” Law enforcement agencies interested in more information on how to schedule and use the center for this training should contact Dean Batchelder at (641) 623-5401 or e-mail deanb@brownells.com.
Range Training — Brownells is nearing completion of its new Big Springs Range located on a 170-acre site near Montezuma. The facility is designed to be operated as a closed range under the supervision of certified range safety officers and can be scheduled for use by law enforcement agencies either separately or in conjunction with classroom training. The Big Springs Range includes:
- A covered concrete firing line serving 100- and 500-yard ranges.
- Two 50-yard ranges which are gravel-surfaced and can be equipped with props for tactical training and competitive shooting.
- A five-stand trap and skeet range.
Operation of the Big Springs Range is under the supervision of Tim Dillon, manager of the Brownells Military/Law Enforcement group. For information concerning its use for training or for competitive events contact Dillon at (641) 623-5401, or by e-mail
