December WebBench - 2008
We've finally made it to the end of a really eventful year, and we decided to take a look at the product trends and comments from you'al over the past 12 months. One thing that jumps right out is that this has been a pretty amazing year not only for us, but for a whole lot of the firearms industry.

November WebBench - 2008
Around here, we've talked a lot about what may lie ahead for the gun industry. And if we thought it was almost surreal before the election, times have gotten even stranger after the election. The economy is still wildly yo-yoing and nobody can tell you where it's all going.

Make no doubt folks, our world is changing. We are not waiting until the 5th of November for change, its already changing today. Economically it's changed, politically it could change and geopolitically it's changed greatly. It seems the whole world is suffering from change.

This year we're facing one of the most pivotal Presidential elections in our country's history and certainly one of the most hotly contested races in modern memory. These next 2 weeks are weeks of "Last Chances" as the election comes even closer on November 4. As all of you know, if you're not registered you can't vote.

Take a look around your shop and figure out the one thing that provides you with the largest return for what you have invested in. Some people point to the lathe, some to a drill press, some to their bluing systems, maybe an engraving set, we hope some of you pointed to the Brownells catalog, but none of those are your most precious asset as a business person. The distinction of the most precious asset would be ....you!

Working with gunsmiths all these years we've noticed some traits or "Rules" if you will, that seem to be common with the really great. You'd figure automatically that they were things directly relating to their ability to work on guns - surprisingly they have nothing to do with gunsmithing!

In case you missed it yesterday, the US Supreme Count ruled on Thursday in the Heller Case. The quote below is the headline and first paragraph from Tom Gresham's GunTalk.TV. Although many sites sent out the good word, I especially love the way Tom made the announcement in his email.

May WebBench - 2008
Even though it's May, the November elections are going to be here before we know it. I had a chance to talk to a lot of old friends and very knowledgeable folks at the NRA Annual Meetings recently in Louisville and realized the next election may prove to be pivotal in the history of gun ownership and the Second Amendment in the United States.

This month I'd like to talk about something my Dad, Bob Brownell, said many times over the years - "Show me a town without a gunsmith and I'll show you a town without any shooting." Just for a moment, stop and think what this says to the importance of gunsmithing to our industry; to the importance of the things we love to do.

I'm certainly glad spring has finally arrived...the cold and record snow we got socked with this past winter were almost overwhelming. But, the snow's gone, the weather is warming up and the range has dried out for the most part, so we'll be out shooting again in another week or so

February WebBench - 2008
Welcome to our February edition of WebBench. A big group of us recently returned from the SHOT Show out in Las Vegas. As always, every one of us certainly had a great time. Got to see a lot of very fine folks and meet a lot of new friends too...it's always nice to see how the industry continues to thrive and to see all of the incredible, and ultimately fun, products out there every year.
