Consistent accuracy is what all shooters are ultimately looking for when hunting or target shooting.
The Brownells/Tom Gresham HuntSavr kit was designed to enable the average sportsman to make simple firearm repairs while in the field. While it is impossible to provide solutions for every emergency, the HuntSavr kit supplies solutions to some common problems that would otherwise render the gun useless.
The 870 ejector uses a riveted spring to propel the fired shot shell out of the receiver. This ejector spring will occasionally break. Traditional repair methods replace not only the ejector spring, but also the rivet.
In order to obtain maximum accuracy in any rifle, the bolt locking lugs must sear evenly and completely in the receiver. In addition, by having all lugs bear evenly, the stresses placed on the bolt during firing are distributed uniformly no one lug is subjected to undue pressure.
Alterations of rifle bolts should be done with great care, especially if intense heat is used for welding, soldering, or brazing. The heat treatment of the locking lugs as well as other critical areas of the bolt such as the cocking cam must not be altered.
Removing or installing a rifle barrel is a common gunsmithing task, yet it can sometimes be quite difficult. In addition to problems caused by the tight fit of the barrel threads in the receiver, the gunsmith may encounter problems directly related to his action wrench.
Earlier Remington centerfire bolt action, pump action and autoloading rifles use an extractor that is riveted into the bolt. When an extractor breaks or fails, it must be replaced.
Remington introduced their rivetless extractor prior to 1981, with the Varmint rifles chambered in 7mm-08 caliber. It has since been used on all centerfire rifles including their pump and autoloading models, replacing the riveted extractor used on the models 740, 742, 760, 700, 600 and XP-100.
Building your own custom rifle has always seemed too far beyond the skills of the average Joe. But with a lot of patience, a little skill and some guidance from Brownells you'll learn how to build a custom Remington 700.
Last month we built our own Remington 700 from parts and tools all available here at Brownells. It was a lot easier to complete than I had anticipated.
Last month we did some shooting, bedded the action into the stock and did some more shooting. This month, we’ll start out with a trigger adjustment, shoot a bit more, then explain what we’re going to do next and introduce the Dave Manson tooling we’ll use to fully accurize the action.
