Choke Tube Interchange Guide
For the first time, shooters and custom gun makers can quickly and easily order the popular Remington 700 Short Action Receiver from a single designated outlet, thanks to an exclusive contract between Brownells and Remington Arms Co.
In order to obtain maximum accuracy in any rifle, the bolt locking lugs
must sear evenly and completely in the receiver. In addition, by having all
lugs bear evenly, the stresses placed on the bolt during firing are distributed
uniformly no one lug is subjected to undue pressure.
Alterations of rifle bolts should be done with great care, especially if
intense heat is used for welding, soldering, or brazing. The heat treatment
of the locking lugs as well as other critical areas of the bolt such as the
cocking cam must not be altered.
Removing or installing a rifle barrel is a common gunsmithing task,
yet it can sometimes be quite difficult. In addition to problems caused
by the tight fit of the barrel threads in the receiver, the gunsmith may
encounter problems directly related to his action wrench.
Earlier Remington centerfire bolt action, pump action and autoloading rifles
use an extractor that is riveted into the bolt. When an extractor breaks
or fails, it must be replaced.
Remington introduced their rivetless extractor prior to 1981, with the
Varmint rifles chambered in 7mm-08 caliber. It has since been used on all
centerfire rifles including their pump and autoloading models, replacing the
riveted extractor used on the models 740, 742, 760, 700, 600 and XP-100.
Building your own custom rifle has
too far beyond the skills of the average Joe. But with a lot of
a little skill and some guidance from Brownells you'll learn
how to build
a custom Remington 700.
Last month we built our own
Remington 700 from
parts and tools all available here at Brownells. It was a lot
complete than I had anticipated.
